STORYBOOK

I can't believe the story in my storybook was right
It didn't have an ending and it kept me up all night
Trying to decide if it was worthwhile just to try
Reading it again to see if something caught me eye
Oh, what do I know?
I should be out there writing in my own
I can't believe the ending in my storybook was just
The villains conquered all and were at last victorious
I left my seat unsettled by the outcome of the plot
Closed the book & set it on the shelf amongst the lot
But I mustn't fear
I'm sure things will be different here
I'm positive, I swear
Things will come together, this will be my year
It's all that I have, I tell myself
You're not a book upon my shelf..

BAG OF LEAVES
04:29
|
|

I don't want to think too much about it
We might lose our minds
And so we place our hands inside our pockets
Just to pass the time
I know it's an undesirable topic
And there are guidelines
If you want to grow old saying nothing
Baby, that's just fine
I'll just sit around and stare at the movie screen
I think I had an answer, but it's really just a scheme
The diagram was wrong, the dimensions are obscene
Though the future is uncertain
A boy can always dream
I don't want to waste away to nothing
Maybe I should eat
But I would lose my appetite just thinking
About the past few weeks
You are awfully quiet on the subject
Trying to be discreet
While I'm a nervous wreck around your ankles
Like a bag of leaves

MASTERMIND
05:41
|
|

'Round this time last year we lost our heads
Now I wake up in a different bed
Your promises were lies, just like they said
But I paid no mind, I was ignorant
But it's a blessing, not a curse
Though at this point I don't know which is worse
I can't count the times I've felt a thrill
Nor can I the times you nearly got us killed
Now you've got this army in your head
Line the up and shoot me til I'm dead
And it's not like we've been missing anything
It's better we forget each others' names
And I don't want to play this little game
But I'll be pointing fingers, casting blame
You're not the mastermind of anything.
'Round this time last year we lost our cool
Now I'm sleeping in a different room
Last I heard, you're living in your car
Maybe it's because you never
Finish anything you start
You're not the mastermind of anything

FIREWORK
05:12
|
|
||
You won't be seen out walking after dark
And you think this generation's lost it's spark
Let this little firework soar into the sky
And light things up
If you're thinking that your day will never come
And you feel like the whole world has come undone
Let this little firework soar into the sky
And light things up
All our troubles are like glaciers, they dissolve
Or they get paved over, something like a parking lot
Better not to yet cash out
Stay the course and let things settle down
If you think that you're the only one who's found
We lose our nerve whenever lights go out
Let this little firework soar into the sky
And spread it round
Somewhere else a million miles away
In some universe that we have yet to name
Particles and molecules start a-moving
When the sun comes up
A beacon shining in the darkness far from home
Somewhere some other race invents a telescope
And our little firework might
Catch them by surprise and give them hope
And all our troubles are like glaciers, they dissolve
Or they get paved over, something like a parking lot
Better not to yet cash out
Stay the course and let things settle down
I hope things settle down

ST. NOSTALGIA
04:17
|
|
||
You have no taste, so why do I waste my time
Trying to think of ways to go about our lives?
I'm wanting to do something that's fun and new
But I must be stupid, I'll settle for any old time
Knock on the door, but don't you come in
Stand in the cold, though you're my friend
Everyone loves you, St. Nostalgia
I don't have much to show, but I have learned
That sometimes you lose, sometimes you get hurt
Times where it seems I might just win
The same things go wrong once and again
I often find myself where I have already been
Knock on the door, but don't you come in
Stand in the cold, though you're my friend
Everyone loves you, St. Nostalgia
I have no time to sit around and whine
Things could be be better, things could be alright
No matter what happens night before
I swear I will always come back for more
You are my only rock
To which I desperately cling tight
Knock on the door, but don't you come in
Stand in the cold, though you're my friend
Everyone loves you, St. Nostalgia
Colors so bright I think I might flip
Is this deja vu or a mushroom trip?
Everyone loves you, St. Nostalgia

ALASKA
05:14
|
|

The sun's always shining
Somewhere in the sky
And though it is dark here
Somewhere it is light
On the horizon
Off to the side
Everyone swears that
They've seen it glowing sometimes
That's why I'm moving to Alaska
Where the sun is always bright
For some it might get cold there
But others think it's fine
That's why I'm moving to Alaska
Where there is no day or night
I hear there might be bears there
But I could use a fight
Awoke in the morning
With crap in my eyes
But it was so dark that they
Could have been shut tight
The glow of a candle
Yellow or white
Brings me some comfort
But only so slight
That's why I'm moving to Alaska
Where the sun is always high
It might seem inconvenient
For those who dare to try
That's why I'm moving to Alaska
Where there is no day or night
I hear there might be bears there
But I could use a fight
